What makes a good tradesman?

Before asking a tradesmen to provide a quote for a certain job it is important to consider which tradesmen to ask and more importantly, how to quantify what is a good and what is a bad tradesman. The most obvious traditional approach is word of mouth. However just because a tradesmen had a satisfied customer in regards to a specific job in the past, doesn’t always result in that tradesmen meeting your expectations. Different tradesmen specialise in different trades, just because a plumber stopped a leak in the middle of the night for your neighbour doesn’t mean he is qualified to fit your new bespoke bathroom.

How to select the right tradesman

Often you hear the term rouge traders or rated tradesmen however this is not always a true reflection of what is a good what is bad. Sometimes disappointment can be prevented if you select the right tradesmen with the right skills for the specific job your require. Eg. Don’t ask a builder to do an electricians job, this may result in a cheaper quote but often results in disappointment. It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the main governing bodies that set standards within the specific trade industries. there are many ways in which to measure the ability and skills of a tradesmen, you will have heard terms such as approved tradesmen, rated tradesmen, trusted tradesmen & tradesmen reviews but what do they all mean?
