Builders Discover Ice Age Fossils
Builders near Aspen ski resort in Colorado have discovered the remains of ice age animals, said the be the “largest collection of ice age animals found in one place” (Daily Telegraph). The fossils were found in sediment in the bottom of a drained river in october by local builders working on a new dam near Snowmass Village. Animals discovered so far are American Mastodons, Columbian Mammoths, Ice Age Bison, Jefferson’s ground slough, an ice age dear and a tiger salamander (Daily Mail). However the search has now been put on hold until the spring, due to the snow. Scientist Dr Kirk Johnson, told the Telegraph, 'Many fossils are pristine as they have been very well preserved. Some of the bones we recovered are still white while we are finding leaves that are still green and tree branches with the bark still on.'
