Choosing a builder can often be a daunting process so we have put together these simple steps to help you along the way.

• Search through our builders in your area. 


• Look at pictures of their previous work, and read their company information.


• Find a least three builders which suite your needs best.


• Ring each builder directly and explain the job you need doing.


• Arrange for a quotation from each builder.


• Look at examples of the builders previous work in person, and get references from the builder. 

Points to consider when Finding Builders

Out of the three builders, choose the one which gives you the best overall impression. This does not necessary mean the cheapest quote, weigh up all the aspects of the builder. How pleased were the previous clients, was the standard of work up to your standard, what time scale will the project take, how easy is communication between you and the builder? Once you have chosen your builder agree a start date and sign a contract before you hand over any money. If a builder refuses to set up a contract, then he is unlikely to be reliable and trust worthy. It is usual practice to pay for a project in installments after a certain stage of the project has been completed. Make sure the installment amount and the stage of the project the monies are due is clearly outlined in the contract. Builders sometimes require a deposit upfront, for materials that need to be brought in advance. But never pay the full amount of a building project upfront. If your builder demands the full amount, ask why? And if they don't give you a answer you are satisfied with, we recommend you change your builder. Ask for receipts for all the installments you pay. If any changes to the original contract take place, make sure the contract is amended.
