More New Houses Needed - FMB
Recently the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) have claimed that less than half of the new houses needed are been constructed. Considering the tight financial implications put in place by the Government, they imply the situation is unlikely to improve.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at FMB stated "The prospects aren't looking good for the next year or so, partly because of the cuts in the government spending projects and also because people find it very difficult to secure a mortgage to get on the housing ladder”.
He also noted the changes the new government have put in place in relation to the localism agenda; which leave it up to the local residents to decide on the number of new homes to be built in their area. "We question whether or not the incentives will be sufficient to actually encourage people to allow house building to take place."
The FMB also highlighted the importance of the development of new homes for the construction industry and the opportunities created for construction workers.
