Research Reveals British Gas Charges More - 7/09/10
Undercover research carried out by consumer magazine Which? revealed that British Gas compared to independent fitters quoted up to 75% more to install a boiler.
British Gas were asked to quote for a boiler installation in 13 houses. In 10 houses the independent firms provided cheaper quotes with British Gas quoting an average of 39% more.
The biggest difference in price was a staggering 75% more quoted by British Gas and the cheapest quote British Gas offered was 17% less.
Which? also carried out a survey of 10,000 members which found that 70% were “Very Satisfied” with the work carried out by independent installers compared to 53% who used British Gas .
However British Gas said that the quotes were not representative and highlighted the unique aftercare and free servicing they offered. A spokesman also added that the “Vast Majority” of customers would recommend them.
